Slovakia – Proposal of the standard VAT Rate increase from 20% to 23% with effect from 1st January 2025.

The Slovak Ministry of Finance has proposed to increase the standard VAT rate from 20% to 23% and reduced from 10% to 19% . No change is planned to the super reduced rate of 5%.
In addition there is a number of changes planned in relation to categorisation of individual goods and services falling under the new VAT rates e.g.

  • 5 % instead of 10 % VAT rate proposed for selected basic foods, textbooks, gastro services, medicines, medical supplies
  • 19 % instead of 20 % VAT rate proposed to other food, non alcoholic beverages served in restaurants, electricity
  • 23 % instead of 10 % VAT proposed to books and accommodation services

Above measures are subject to changes during approval process and are planned to be implemented as of 1st January 2025.
